GAT practice papers: how to choose them and get value from them

4 min read · 28/10/2026

The internet is full of “GAT papers”, and many are leaked or old questions with no explanation. A useful practice paper has clear characteristics, and how you use it matters more than how many you do.

01What a good practice paper looks like

  • Questions with the same ideas and level as Qiyas, not literal copies.
  • A realistic split between quantitative and verbal and between question types.
  • Timing that roughly matches the time per question in the real exam.
  • A step-by-step solution for every question after submission.
  • A result broken down by section, not just an overall score.

02The right way to use it

Take the paper once, fully timed, then review your mistakes by reason. Retaking the same paper a week later measures your memory, not your level; a new paper is better.

03The official Qiyas samples

The Education and Training Evaluation Commission publishes official sample questions that show what the items look like. Start with them to understand the format, then practise with new papers every week.

FAQ

How many practice papers do I need before the GAT?

6–8 full timed papers over 6–8 weeks, reviewing each one. Quantity without review does not raise the score.
